According to officials of Nepal Transport Entrepreneurs´ National Federation (NTENF) - the umbrella organization of transporters, the open queue system will make it mandatory for transport entrepreneurs to make round trip every day instead of existing single trip from October 16.[break]
“We have made new arrangements following complaints over shortage of tickets. People needn´t have to worry about the tickets; they can get seats even if they do not have booking,” said Dolnath Khanal, general secretary of NTENF.
Khanal said they won´t book tickets for additional trips and that people can catch the bus at designated departure points. “People have to contact NTENF counters to get information about departure points,” he added. He further added that tickets for regular trips have already been booked.
Meanwhile, NTENF and Department of Transport Management (DoTM) are closely monitoring ticket counters and other departure points to make sure that middlemen do not charge excessive fare or cheat people by issuing fake tickets.
Transport entrepreneurs are preparing to add additional 600 buses from October 18-22 to ease movement of people to and from the capital. This will raise total number of buses to 1,200. These buses will serve about 50,000 passengers a day.
“With the addition of new buses and the adoption of open queue system, we can ferry at least 50,000 passengers a day from the capital to different parts of the country,” said Dharam Raj Rimal, Bagmati Zonal Coordinator of NTENF.
According to Rimal, about 50,000 people leave the capital every day between October 18 and 22 to different parts of the country for Dashain celebration.
