The bank has already started blood collection centers at Bhugol Park, Mahabaudha, Bhotahity, Chabahil and Jamal in the capital. “We have been planning to open more such centers in Lalitpur and other places in Kathmandu,” she added.
According to the bank, the demand for blood per day is 350 to 400 pints. However, only 250 to 300 pints are donated on an average daily.
Earlier, the demand was only 250 to 300 pints a day. Bista said treatment of several complicated ailments like cancer, kidney disease and heart disease require blood, hence the growing demand.
The he bank said there is always a shortage of all blood groups. “We have been trying our best to arrange blood for patients in need of blood,” Bista said.
Blood collection has also declined due to the month long winter vacation in the collages. Bista said collages are the main source of blood supply to the bank. He said they have also urged several organizations to conduct more blood donation programs.
