ADB veep bats for reforms

KATHMANDU, March 28: Vice President of Asian Development Bank (ADB) Xiaoyu Zhao on Monday reiterated ADB´s continued assistance to Nepal´s efforts to reduce poverty, but urged the government to remain focused on reforms and development agenda.



Zhao, who completed his three-day official visit on Monday, also urged the government to take peace and constitution drafting process forward. [break]



During the visit, Zhao met with Prime Minister Jhala Nath Khanal and Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister Bharat Mohan Adhikary. He also visited various ADB-assisted projects in Lumbini and the surrounding areas, and interacted with the project staff and beneficiaries.



Among others, Zhao had taken keen interest on the government´s plan to address energy crisis and also expressed ADB´s support to help the country address the power shortage.



According to a press statement, Zhao also expressed confidence that the new government would continue to forge a broad-based political consensus for taking the peace and constitution drafting process forward, along with creating conducive development and business environment.



Zhao joined ADB in August 2008 and heads ADB´s Operations Group that, among others, includes the South Asia Regional Department.
