During the three-day visit to Nepal, which concluded on Friday, Zhao held consultations with Prime Minister Madhav Kumar Nepal.
Issuing a press statement, ADB said that Zhao also met Minister for Finance, Minister for Environment and Vice Chairperson of National Planning Commission along with representatives from the private sector and development partners.
"ADB looks forward to working very closely with the government, especially the Ministry of Environment, through ADB´s ´Energy for All´ initiative which aims to support ADB´s developing member countries in improving access to energy and reducing poverty in rural communities in remote villages," said Zhao.
Under this, ADB has proposed that Nepal be one of the pilot countries which could explore harnessing the potential of alternative energy sources such as solar, small wind power, biogas, and micro-hydropower.
Zhao also emphasized the importance of public-private partnerships, capacity building, and innovations in financing instruments and implementation modalities in developing renewable energy projects.
