KATHMANDU, Oct 3: Minister for Physical Infrastructure and Transport, Devendra Dahal, has said that action will be taken against transport operators who ran buses on the nights of September 27 and 28, despite the government’s prior warning not to operate vehicles due to the risk of floods and landslides. An investigation is currently underway into the matter.

Speaking at a press conference on Thursday, Minister Dahal said that although the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology had issued an alert, buses continued to operate during the night, and the concerned authorities are also under investigation.

He further added that while transport entrepreneurs might charge slightly more when using alternative routes due to the poor condition of roads, any excessive fare hike will be monitored closely.

"We have allowed a small adjustment in fares when alternate routes are used, but significant overcharging will not be tolerated," Minister Dahal said. He also mentioned that a monitoring mechanism involving Nepal Police and the Department of Transport is in place to ensure compliance with the government orders.

Minister Dahal said that the circumstances leading to the bus accident, despite the weather alert, are being thoroughly investigated, and necessary action will follow.
