Accused of caste-based discrimination, ward chair arrested in Chetan Ayadi murder case

BAJURA, Dec 1: Triveni Municipality-7 Ward Chairman Juddha Bahadur Ayadi has been arrested for his alleged involvement in the murder of student leader Chetan Ayadi. The ward chairman who is facing a case of caste-based discrimination and untouchability, has been arrested again on the charge of murder.

Juddha was released on a bail of Rs 100,000 only a month ago. He had allegedly discriminated against and beaten people from the Dalit community for entering a temple. Juddha who was released on bail after spending over a month in custody in that case, has been arrested again on the charge of murder. 

Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Surya Thapa said that among the 22 people accused of murdering student leader Chetan Ayadi, Ward Chairman Ayadi was also arrested after his name was mentioned in the complaint. Tekendra Sunar was beaten up by a group of three people, including Ward Chair Ayadi, who said that Dalits were not allowed to perform puja at the Nateshwari temple located in Triveni-7.

All three people involved in the incident are being prosecuted under the Caste Discrimination and Untouchability Act. Ward Chair Ayadi was arrested again less than a month after he was presented before the district court. Chetan’s family has accused that Ward Chairman Ayadi had planned the murder of Chetan Ayadi, sent him to his house and forced him to be beaten to death. Another person who is also allegedly involved in the case along with Ward Chair Ayadi has also been arrested on the charge of murder. Chetan’s relatives have claimed that since the last local elections, Ward Chair Ayadi had been plotting and planning to kill Chetan. He has also been accused of winning the local level elections by capturing election booths and other violent means.
