Tattooing dates back to the fifth millennium BC while piercing, particularly that of ears, dates back to ancient times. [break]
However, now, both of them have become the “in thing” and have become quite common amongst youngsters.
We asked for thoughts about tattoos and piercing on our Facebook page and Shravan Kumar Luitel said, “I neither am obsessed nor passionate about tattoos and piercing but regarding people who love it, I think they are free to sport whatever they wish to do as we all do in a free society and that’s exactly how pluralism is practiced.”

For Ayush Dhungel, it’s not just a style or fashion; it is also a new medium to express oneself. “Tattoos can be expressive but I think one should be very careful in selecting a tattoo so that you don’t regret all your life,” said Ayush.
It’s a different story that you get a tattoo to reveal your feelings to the outer world while some get it for personal reasons. But with age and as your skin wrinkles, the tattoo does get a bit nasty looking.
“I am very well aware of the fact that it will look ugly when we grow old but I still want to get a tattoo. But the traditional mindset of my parents and other people stop me from getting one,” said Angila Sharma.
Shailesh Shrestha, however, believes that both tattoo and piercing (ears and nose) are in our tradition and culture. “But if I were to get one right now, I would go for a fashionable one like piercing your eyebrow or lip,” said Shailesh.
