“The campaign intends to prevent theft and duplication of creations by all advertising creators and to work for protecting their rights,” said Raj Kumar Bhattarai, vice president of AAN. The advertising market of the country stands at around Rs 3 billion, but the industry reels under the problem of counterfeiting.
Under the protection campaign, advertisers can protect their products by registering them at AAN. The association has fixed the copyright protection registration rate at Rs 1,000 for member agencies and Rs 1,500 for others.
Copyright protection registration will be valid for two years and in case of any counterfeiting, the association will compel the wrongdoer to compensate for the loss to the original creator, make the wrongdoer´s name public and request media not to give space to the counterfeited product.
“With this initiative, we are hopeful that the present practice of counterfeiting advertisements will be controlled,” said AAN president Nirmal Raj Paudel.
Advertising agencies also raised their voice for ´clean fit´, under which they demand that the government authority concerned ban display of advertisements on pay channels broadcast in the country.
AAN officials said such unauthorized advertising practices have affected the growth of the country´s advertising market. If the clean fit provision is implemented as demanded by the agencies, AAN members said it will instantly increase the volume of the market to Rs 4.50 billion a year.
On the occasion, AAN also launched its website www.adnepal.org.np through which people can acquire information about advertising agencies and the advertising market of the country. “The website also has a wide range of information highlighting the technologies in use and the growth of the ad business in Nepal,” stated Bhattarai.
The website informs viewers about all the activities of AAN. The association has 117 member agencies.
