Themed “Climate Change, Mountains, and the Future of Humanity,” this is the first edition of Sagarmatha Sambaad, which the government plans to host biennially.
High-level delegates from 12 countries will participate in one main plenary session. In addition, representatives from 61 national and international organizations, including SAARC, BIMSTEC, the Asian Development Bank, the World Bank, and various civic groups, will attend the event.
Delegates will engage in 12 parallel sessions and side events. Dr. Rana said preparations are in their final stage, with 10 preliminary discussions already completed.
She expressed confidence that the dialogue will elevate Nepal’s role in promoting peaceful, diplomacy-driven solutions to global challenges. “Nepal has the potential to lead neutral, dialogue-based diplomacy on issues like climate change,” she said.
Prime Minister K P Sharma Oli is scheduled to address the event, while Minister Rana will deliver the keynote speech. A video message from the UN Secretary-General will also be screened.
The Sagarmatha Sambaad Secretariat confirmed that high-level delegates from India and China, along with the President of Azerbaijan—who also serves as the COP-29 President—will address the forum.
