A potpourri of music

KATHMANDU, Nov 23: Music, no matter in what language or genre, is music, and even if you don’t understand what the lyrics are all about, you still end up bopping your head!

Sri Lankan singer Iraj’s new song, “Your Love,” with Markia and Kona, the latter a Bengali singer, has been on my playlist on loop for the past few weeks, and it’s amazing how I can connect to the song even though I don’t get the Bengali part. [break]

And that’s when I forced a Bengali friend of mine to translate it for me, but that’s a whole different story. However, the lyrics, after translation, seemed even more beautiful.

If you have the time and patience, try listening to it on youtube! The past two weeks have seen a whole lot of singles coming out, as usual, and from the blue shelves of Hits FM 91.2 and straight from Radio Play in the US, these are some of the singles that are all set to burn the dance floor while some might just capture your heart.

Glen Campbell is out with his latest song “Any Trouble” from his new, and perhaps his last album he’ll ever remember on his own – “Ghosts on the Canvas.”

Campbell was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s in 2009. Few artists get the luxury of crafting their final album as a conscious farewell, but Campbell isn’t just any artist!

The legendary singer and actor has been in the business for over five decades, has released more than 70 albums and made history by winning four Grammy Awards in both Country and Pop categories in 1967.

He’s not “just a singer.” The farewell album is definitely a collection piece for your music shelf!

Fans itching for a new single by Nickelback are getting an early surprise from the band. The Alberta-bred rockers released their seventh album “Here and Now” on November 21.

To celebrate the release, the band released two singles from the album of which “When We Stand Together” has hit Hits FM 91.2’s airwaves, and the song will perhaps help solve the problems of the world? Listen to the song and you’ll know what I’m really talking about.

Nothing ever quite seems to come easy for Amy Lee. After the brand new lineup in the band, she’s come up with her latest single, “My Heart Is Broken.”

The song was to be included in “Twilight: Breaking Dawn – Part I,” the latest in the series of the Twilight Saga, but it was to no avail. But the song is definitely to win hearts with their Goth-inspired song of heartache!

A little bit of Rap-infused power ballad is nothing new, but newbie Alyssa Reid definitely sounds good in her debut single “Alone Again” featuring P. Reign.

Taken off her debut album “The Game,” the set offers catchy breakup advice for love-stricken generation from a new performer whose vocal maturity will only improve with age and experience, with hope.

Getting famous at a tender age seems to be in the in-thing right now in the industry. Ten-year-old Willow Smith’s debut single “Whip My Hair” caused such frenzy in the grammar schools across the developed world that her famous parents, Will Smith and Jada Pinkett Smith decided she should try rapping as well.

That’s what she’s tried doing in her new single, collaborating with American Music Award 2011 winner Nicki Minaj, titled “Fireball.” Well, she might not be the fireball as of now, but she can definitely learn some more from Minaj. Catchy lyrics, though!

If you’re a Blink 182 fan, you are in for a treat, because the lads are out with their brand new single titled “After Midnight.” The band’s style of music hasn’t changed much but the singing style, to some extent, has – and for the better.

Also out with his new single is Bow Wow’s “Sweat,” and he’s tied up with Lil’ Wayne in it. Now we all know that Bow Wow is a big spender.

He recently dropped five stacks at a strip club with his homie Chris Brown without blinking! So in his new “raunchy” single, Bow lets us know that he’s a baller as well and details the slick lines he uses to score. The 24-year-old is set to burn the Hip-Hop stage, and that’s a fact!

Also worth listening to is the single “Little Numbers” by Boy, consisting of the exciting young duo of Zurich-born Valeska Steiner and Sonja Glass from Hamburg.
