KATHMANDU, March 5: Nepali Congress (NC) leader Ram Chandra Paudel has said that a culture that respects labor will elevate the nation.

Paudel, while speaking at a greetings exchange and tea reception held in Kathmandu on the occasion of the 77th foundation day of Nepal Trade Union Congress on Sunday, said that a culture that respects labor will elevate the nation.

He said that in order to move the nation forward, labor should be respected. He said that there is a situation where the fields of his village are left barren and food is imported from abroad and this situation should end. He mentioned that tilling one's land is nationalism and patriotism.

He said, "In order for the nation to prosper, it is necessary to promote a culture that respects labor the most. Today, all our villages and lands are barren. We bring food from abroad and consume it. We have imported food worth billions and trillions. How shall we pay for it? Therefore, we should raise our nation’s standard by working hard. This is what nationalism is. This is patriotism. And let us all work to respect and inspire the working-class people. Let the state be oriented towards that end. We have declared that Nepal is a socialism-oriented state. It must be realized. No more playing with words alone. Words are misused a lot in this country. The meaning of the word has to be conceptualized.”
