According to the expert, Nepal, China and India will benefit from the agreements inked during a recent China visit by Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli.
Director at the Institute of South and Southeast Asian and Oceania Studies of the China Institutes of Contemporary International Relations, Hu Shisheng said that transit treaty, cross-border transmission line are the major deals.
“China and South Asia will benefit from the agreements,” said Hu while talking to Republica Online, “The deal will changed geopolitical situation in the region and the change will be positive.”
He was of the opinion that Nepal and China reached the agreements at a right time.
Hu remarked the agreements come in the context that Nepal has entered a phase of political stability and economic development and India has turned positive on Trans-Himalaya Economic Corridor.
“It is a historic move to connect China and South Asia,” Professor Hu said, “Trans-Himalaya transportation will benefit tourism in Nepal.”
Stressing that it is possible to connect Nepal and China through rail network he said, “The agreements on transit, energy and transportation has taken Nepal-China relation to a new level.”
Deputy Director of China Reform Forum, Ma Jiali terms Nepal-China agreements as a breakthrough. Transit treaty, expansion of rail network, cross-border transmission line and commitment for petro deal are the major achievements, according to him.
Trans-Himalayan Rail Network will benefit not only Nepal, but also India and China, he remarked.
“The agreement in Beijing is a breakthrough in Nepal-China relation,” said Professor Ma, “Some country might not like it, but they will understand in a long run.”
Saying that China never wishes that Nepal inclines toward it, he said, “Balanced relation between both the neighboring countries will be beneficial for Nepal.”
