They have been accused of extorting Rs 500,000 from a pharmacy operator. They have also been accused of looting cash and ornaments.
The arrested have been identified as mastermind Sanjog Moktan, 27, of Hetauda-5; Nabin Batarula, 27, of Kamane VDC; Archan Pun, 28, of Kamane; Jyoti Nepali, 29, of Hariban-8, Sarlahi; and Tej Bahadur Sunar, 27, of Sanashree VDC, Bardiya.
Among them, Jyoti Nepali is an assistant constable and Tej Bahadur Sunar as constable in the APF, stated the press release issued by the DPO.
The five arrested had extorted money from Madhu Prashad Jayswal of Hetuada-24 on Saturday evening. They had taken Jayswal to forest asking his help in repairing a motorcycle. As Jayswal personally knew Moktan, he had agreed to go with them. One of them then pointed gun at him and demanded Rs 500,000 after reaching the forest, stated the press release.
According to the police, they forced illegal drugs into the hands of Jayswal and clicked his picture. They then warned Jayswal of putting him in trouble if he did not agree to provide them with the money. A fake gun has been confiscated from the accused.
