NA plane lands in Brisbane carrying around 260 Australians from Nepal

KATHMANDU, April 2: Nepal Airlines aircraft carrying around 260 Australians stranded in Nepal has landed at Brisbane Airport Thursday morning.

According to the Australian Ambassador to Nepal Peter Budd, the NA flight landed safely in Brisbane. “Nepalis should be rightfully proud,” he tweeted today morning.

Australians were foreign tourists among those stranded in various trekking trails in Nepal due to the lockdown imposed by the government to stem the spread of novel coronavirus.

The Australian Embassy in Nepal chartered the flight to evacuate citizens from Australia and New Zealand stranded in Nepal. This is the first time Nepal Airlines aircraft touched down on Australian soil. Nepal Airlines Airbus 330’s Kathmandu-Kuala Lumpur-Brisbane flight carried around 260 Australian nationals to their homeland.

Australian Foreign Minister and Minister for Women Marise Payne also took to Twitter to thank her Nepali counterpart Pradeep Gyawali and his ministry for their cooperation in evacuating Australians from Nepal.
