Itahari hotels to remain closed for 10 days

ITAHARI, March 24: Hoteliers of Itahari have decided to close all hotels and lodges in the city for 10 days.

A meeting of Hotel Entrepreneurs Association, Itahari, took the decision to prevent possible transmission of COVID-19 coronavirus in crowded areas like hotels and lodges.

The government has restricted movement of people form one district to another unless necessary.

Similarly, it has also requested people not to create crowed in temples, churches and mosques as well as party palaces, among others.

Issuing a statement, the association said that all hotels and lodges in Itahari will remain closed between March 24 and April 4. 

Jiwan Parajuli, chairperson of the association, said that hoteliers will hold meetings with concerned agencies for waiver of rent as well as bank interest in this moment of crisis.

Hotels and lodges of Itahari are mostly used by people of eastern hilly and tarai districts as Itahari is located at an appropriate point for travelers.

There are around 300 registered hotels and lodges in Itahari. Of them, 10 have investment above Rs 100 million. Except for a few shops, most of the shops in Itahari remained closed on Monday.

The Federation of Nepalese Chambers of Commerce and Industry has also decided to close all the shops till April 3. 

Meanwhile, people remained off the streets after Itahari Sub-Metropolitan City used public announcement vans to inform people about coronavirus spread, urging them to stay at home.

Koshi Rural Municipality of Sunsari has also closed all vegetable markets to prevent the spread of coronavirus. The markets will open from April 3 only. Similarly, government offices of Sunsari have stopped all services, except essential services, as a preventive measure.
