KATHMANDU, Oct 4: Nepal welcomed 9,898 foreign tourists in the month of September, according to the information released by the Department of Immigration. The number of tourists who arrived in August was around 6,000.
Among the visitors from SAARC countries, 3,523 are Indian nationals, 80 from Pakistan, 60 from Bangladesh, 39 from Sri Lanka and 32 are from Bhutan. Likewise, a total of 585 tourists arrived in Nepal from Asian countries including China, Japan, Malaysia, Singapore, South Korea, Myanmar, Taiwan and Thailand.

Similarly, 1,733 foreign tourists who arrived in Nepal are from European countries, 2,123 from Canada and the US combined while 77 tourists are from Australia and four from New Zealand.
Nepal’s tourism business is one of the sectors hit hard by the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic. The hospitality business was about to gather some momentum in March with the inflow of an encouraging number of foreign visitors in the aftermath of the first wave of the pandemic last year. However, it was crippled again after the second wave of the coronavirus hit the country.
