PM to have a kidney transplant soon

KATHMANDU, Feb 5: Speaking to a select group of editors at the prime minister’s residence in Baluwatar on Tuesday evening, PM KP Oli said that the parliament will endorse the Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC) grant at the earliest. He said that a three-member study group, headed by Nepal Communist Party leader Jhalanath Khanal, will submit a detailed report on the project within a week.

“We have asked the team to study the project and submit a report soon,” PM said. He assured the editors that the project is in the country’s interest and that there is no reason for the country to reject the $500 million grant provided by the United States of America.

Similarly, he also said that his government is committed to protecting press freedom and other forms of fundamental rights enshrined in the constitution.

“My government is the result of big revolutions, and we have the people’s mandate. We cannot think of curtailing press and individual freedom,” PM Oli said. However, he also stressed that there is a need for some sort of regulation to “move the country toward a civilized and respectful society”. “We have to be mindful of the kind of society we are developing,” the prime minister added.

Talking about his health, PM Oli said he will soon have a kidney transplant in order to “work for the next three years as the country’s prime minister”.

“I will be the prime minister for the next three years, let there be no doubt,” he said. “NCP co-chair Pushpa Kamal Dahal agreed to let me run the government for a full five-year term,” PM assured the editors.

PM Oli defended the decisions of the government to award several major contracts to Yeti Holdings, including the Gokarna Forest Resort. “The Resort was awarded to Yeti after a comprehensive study in a transparent manner,” Oli claimed. He also assured that the government will punish those involved in the Lalita Niwas land scam.

“We will make sure that those involved in the scam will be punished, regardless of their stature in the party or the government.”
