In her speech, minister Koirala referred to the contributions made by the first elected Prime Minister of Nepal BP Koirala in laying the foundation for friendly relations between the two countries by signing the Treaty of Peace and Friendship.
Eulogizing the visionary leadership of China, Koirala said that China has been a valued partner in Nepal´s development effort and that Nepal feels "the need to inject new dynamism in the scope and the modality of cooperation by expanding economic and commercial relations."
She also reaffirmed that Nepal has consistently upheld “One China” policy and that Nepal recognizes Tibet as an integral part of China and is firm in its stand not to allow Nepali territory to be used against China.
Dwelling on Nepal´s political and development agenda, Koirala talked about political changes that have taken place in the country following people´s movement in 2006 and spoke of the need for unity among all parties to bring the peace process to a logical conclusion.
Earlier, Koirala gave an interview to the China Daily and highlighted the multifaceted relationship between Nepal and China. A large number of academicians, intellectuals, ambassadors, and others attended the event, the Nepal embassy in Beijing said in a press release.
