New Industry Minister Pandey insists on industrial revolutionNewly appointed Minister for Industry Som Prasad Pandey has said economic development is the current need of the country.
Assuming office amidst a programme at the Ministry Monday, he insisted on the need of industrial revolution to bolster nation's economy. He pledged his best to promote industries during his tenure.
On the occasion, Industry Secretary Jaymukunda Khanal welcomed the new Industry Minister.
Industry Minister Pandey was born to a middle-class family on Jeth 20, 2012 BS at Madan Pokhara of Palpa. He had joined the Communist movement in 2027BS and was elected to the second Constituent Assembly from the Palpa Constituency no-2.
He had won the 2051 and 2056 general elections from the same constituency. Pandey who holds a bachelor's degree in law from the Nepal Law Campus had been the party central committee member.
New Foreign Minister Thapa says consolidating ties with neighbours is his priority
Newly-appointed Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Foreign Affairs Kamal Thapa said consolidating bilateral relations with neighbours and donor nations would be priority of his tenure.
After assuming office Monday at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Minister Thapa said resolving the problems relating to transport facilities facing the country through diplomatic efforts would be his first priority.
Applauding the ministry's contribution to the protection and promotion of country's independence and sovereignty, he said greater interests of the country would be the guidelines of the Ministry.
He pledged his best to make the role of diplomatic missions significant and boost up the morale of employees' diplomatic services.
On the occasion, he was welcomed by Foreign Secretary Shanker Das Bairagi. The Ministry has got an experienced personality in Nepali politics and an expert on foreign affairs, Bairagi said.
Thapa, the Chairman of Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP) Nepal was born in 2012 BS in Makawanpur. He had already served as the minister for home, foreign affairs, forest, health and population, law, physical planning, and information and communications at different times before this. This is the second time he is heading the Ministry of Foreign Affairs after 17 years.
New Justice Minister Kharel vows to institutionalize citizens' rights
Minister for Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Agni Prasad Kharel has vowed to institutionalize the citizens' rights guaranteed by the constitution by framing it as new set of laws.
Assuming office today, Minister Kharel instructed the civil servants telling them he would run the Ministry in a professional footing and prioritize maintaining high morale among the employees.
"The constitution has established federalism, democracy and republic, and to stabilize this is the chief necessity of the present time," the newly appointed Minister said adding, "The Ministry will have an important role to play in working to institutionalize the grave responsibility."
Insisting that the Constituent Assembly gained great success in drafting the constitution, Minister Kharel reaffirmed his commitment to address all the subjects by framing the achievements of federalism, the tentative draft of the provinces, democracy's fundamental norms and values upheld by the constitution in form of laws.
Minister Kharel said his ministry deputed with overlooking the affairs of law, justice and parliament which is connected to the judiciary would work as an adhesive and facilitate coordination with the Nepal Government. "I will not allow the employees working in the Justice Ministry to be subjected to injustice, you all should be assured of this," Minister said while instructing the civil servants.
Kharel, who is also the Chief Whip of CPN (UML) Parliamentary Party, said his party played a significant role in writing the new constitution. Minister Kharel - a former general secretary of the Nepal Bar Association –is a senior advocate.
On the occasion, Ministry's Secretary Bhesh Raj Sharma welcomed the newly appointed Minister and expressed joy that the Ministry had received an experienced leadership and legal scholar at a time which demanded creation of a host of laws for successfully implementing the new constitution.
"We have a solemn responsibility to frame laws with the promulgation of the new constitution. The Ministry has the duty to coordinate with the judiciary and we have received a professional lawyer after many years," he said.
Secretary Sharma said separate committees had been formed at the Ministry and the Supreme Court to prepare a list of laws for necessary formulation of the laws and amendments. "We have started work for framing acts so as to facilitate synchronization with the constitution and work for amendments," he said.
He said the Ministry had published the salient features of the new constitution in Nepali and other languages.
