KATHMANDU, July 17: The government selected 84 model schools from various 69 districts for the School Sector Development Program (SSDP) in the last fiscal year 2018/2019.

The selected model schools were provided Rs 50 million for a period of five years to construct physical infrastructure and enhance the quality of education. "The schools were selected by the Centre for Education and Human Resources, and the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology on the basis of the evaluation made by the local level", said the Centre's Director Gehanath Gautam. The indexes are related to the access to electricity, internet, subjects available for class 11 and 12, SEE's three years' result, the ratio of students and teacher and the like.

According to him, those selected schools were chosen out of 336 schools on the basis of the various indexes. The Centre so far has selected 322 model schools. The Centre will select 100 model schools every year under the Programme which started in 2016 and will last through 2023. The government has planned to select 1,000 model schools under the SSDP. At least one school has been selected from each local unit, informed Gautam.
