KATHMANDU, Sept 1: The Constitutional Committee of the Constituent Assembly (CA) has formed a 19-member subcommittee to prepare concept papers and preliminary drafts based on the reports submitted by other five subcommittees.
“The newly formed subcommittee will finish preparing the concept paper and preliminary draft by Sept 6 and submit them to the full CA meeting by Sept 6,” said Suprabha Ghimire of the Nepali Congress (NC), who has been inducted into the sub-committee. According to her, the subcommittee will appoint its coordinator on Wednesday.
Earlier, the Constitutional Committee had formed five subcommittees for writing the name of the constitution, its preamble as well as the provisions related to political parties, emergency and transitional period. They have already submitted their reports to the full constitutional committee.
The Constitutional Committee has speeded up its work after it got its chairman on Friday. The post had remained vacant following the election of the then chairman Madhav Kumar Nepal to the post of the prime minister. Besides writing preamble, and provisions related to emergency, political parties and transitional period, the committee will also collect all the reports and preliminary drafts prepared by the 10 thematic committees and prepare the preliminary drafts of the new constitution.
