LAHAN, Nov 20: An unidentified group hijacked a tanker carrying around 20,000 liters of diesel from Lahan of Siraha district.

The tanker (Na 4 Kha 4163) en route to Biratnagar from the Amlekhgunj depot of Bara district was hijacked by an undentified group at around 1 am Tuesday.

Issuing a press statement, Nepal Oil Corporation (NOC) said that the tanker was parked on the highway, and the hijackers blindfolded and kidnapped the driver Ramdev Yadav and his assistant Umesh Yadav.

The hijackers left them in a jungle between Lalbandhi and Bardibas, and took the tanker with 20,000 liters of diesel away.

According to Birendra Goit, spokesperson for Nepal Oil Corporation (NOC), the diesel is valued at Rs 1.9 million. “The state-owned oil monopoly has formed a four-member probe committee led by Ashok Shah, Provincial 1 chief of NOC, to investigate the incident. The NOC has been coordinating with the police for the investigation into the case,” he added. “A group of 6-8 hijackers kidnapped the driver and his assistant and freed them in a nearby jungle,” the statement reads. The hijackers are on the run, and the condition of the tanker is still unknown, according to the police.
