After knocking him unconscious, the kidnappers buried the boy alive at a nearby forest, believing he would die soon.
According to Metropolitan Police Crime Division, Teku, family members reported the kidnapping to police after the abductors made repeated phone calls demanding a ransom of Rs 5 million.Superintendent of Police at the Crime Division, Buddhi Gurung, said that the two kidnappers dumped the boy in a pit and covered him with dry leaves and twigs, thinking he was already dead.
The two alleged kidnappers have been identified as Bhim Bahadur Magar, 23, and Rudra Khatri, 26, both from Marbu VDC-3 of Dolakha district. The kidnappers have been living temporally in Bhaktapur and are house painters by occupation.
"Influenced by a movie we saw, we abducted the boy to make money fast," SP Gurung quoted the two as saying. According to police, the plan to kidnap the boy was hatched on June 6.
They took the boy, the son of Bhimsen Banjara who is originally from Dhubachaur-1 of Sindhupalchowk district, to a nearby jungle via Dakshin Dhoka at Gokarna, with a promise of taking him to see a football match.
Prior to the kidnap, one of the kidnappers had met the boy repeatedly to win his trust.
"After they buried the boy, they sent text messages to his parents, asking them to come with the ransom to Sindhpalchowk and take their son back," police said.
Miraculously, the boy regained consciousness after about two hours and made his way to nearby Almighty Model School. After people there found he had serious injuries to the head, chest and neck, they took him to hospital and informed his parents.
"We had no place to hide the boy after he became unconscious, so we hit him on the head and buried him," the abductors told police.
Metropolitan Police Circle Office, Bouddha, arrested the two from Balkot and Kaushaltar after tracking their call details.
Nirmala Banjara, the mother of the boy, said that she had known Magar, one of the kidnappers, since the past few years but never thought he would abduct her son.
The two have been handed over to police for further investigations.
