78 projects submit self-monitoring report

KATHMANDU, Aug 4: Seventy-eight projects have submitted the self-monitoring report (SMR) to the Department of Environment under the Ministry of Forests and Environment.

KATHMANDU, Aug 4: Seventy-eight projects have submitted the self-monitoring report (SMR) to the Department of Environment under the Ministry of Forests and Environment.


Director General of the Department, Shiva Lal Tiwari, shared that 13 projects related to hydropower, one related to power transmission line, three related to the health sector, two related to the tourism sector and 59 industries submitted their SMRs.

The Department on March 19 had issued a notice asking industries, institutions and projects to submit the self-monitoring report. After the notice, the Department has started receiving such reports even from sectors other than industries.


Upper Marsyangdi 'A' Hydropower Project has already submitted its second self-monitoring report to the Department during the period as per the notice.


Tiwari further said, "Some industries were regularly submitting the self-monitoring report to the Department even before this notice was published. Those submitting the self-monitoring reports regularly are Asian Paints Nepal Pvt Ltd, Bottlers Nepal Limited, Gorkha Brewery, Panchakanya Group, Nimbus Cultivating Partnership, Reliance Spinning Mills Limited, Unilever Nepal Limited and PBT Best Industries Limited."


A total of 106 self-monitoring reports from 78 projects were received by the Department in different phases in the last fiscal year 2079/80 BS.
