Search for missing US chopper continues

KATHMANDU, May 15: The search for the US Marine Corps UH-1Y Huey helicopter that went missing since Tuesday afternoon continued on Thursday, leaving the search operation clueless for more than 50 hours.

According to Nepal Army (NA) Directorate of Public Affairs, NA personnel and US Army officers jointly carried out search via both aerial and land routes will be carried out from each from early Friday morning.

"We have carried out search on the possible missing zones and as per the hints given by the local people. But we are clueless till the date," said Nepal Army spokesperson Brigadier General Jagadih Chandra Pokharel. Brigadier Gerneral Pokharel also termed the missing US chopper as 'mystery' as the helicopter could not be traced even after hours passed.More than 400 NA personnel and three NA choppers are involved in the search for aircraft that went missing with missing with eight person on board.

But some NA officials claimed they are making some announcement on Friday about the missing chopper, that had taken off immediately after Tuesday's earthquake and reportedly went missing near Sunkhani area of Dolakha.

NA said the probable areas in Dolakha-Lapilang, Lamidanda, Sunkhani, Kshetrapa and Juvu in Dolakha along with few Chinese bordering areas have been searched till date.
