KATHMANDU, April 16: The Kathmandu District Court on Thursday sent Jiban BK, 20, to judicial custody for his alleged involved in an acid attack on two girls on Feb 22 in Basantapur of Kathmandu.

A bench of Judge Swikriti Parajuli issued an order against Jiban BK, 20, of Fulashi-8 of Ramechhap, as police presented him in the court Thursday. Final verdict in the case is pending.

Police had earlier investigated that the BK had attacked the two girls in an act of revenge after his love relation turned sour after family members disapproved of their relationship on caste grounds.Police had arrested BK after twenty-seven days of the attack from his rented room based in Tokha, while he was hiding there from police and family members. After his arrest he had confessed that Sangita Magar, 16, whose family shared the same rented house with him in Jhochhen, forced him to move elsewhere upon learning that he was from the so-called lower caste.

Police had also investigated that BK tried to attack the family several times but was not successful and finally decided to mar her beauty.

Magar, originally from Khaniya-8 Ramechhap, was the prime target and Sima Basnet, 15, originally from Paurahi-1 of Rauthat district, were injured and hospitalized for weeks, leaving law enforcement agencies clueless for long.

In the lack of specific legal provisions to deal with acid attack, the District Attorney had filed a case against the accused demanding at least 10 years jail.
