POKHARA, April 11: Jojo, 40, and Maybo, 26, a couple from China, tied nuptial knot a month ago in their own country as per their own tradition. But the newly-wed couple from Hu Bei, China, exchanged vows again recently. This time, married each other in Nepal following Nepalese tradition.

Their marriage ceremony took place in Pokhara on Thursday. As per the Nepalese tradition, the wedding procession was led by a group playing panchebaja, the traditional Nepalese musical instruments. The procession, which started from a hotel at Lakeside, traveled all the way to Kedareshwar Temple.

The couple offered prayers at the temple and received blessings from the temple's priest.

"These moments will remain with us for the rest of our lives," said Jojo.

It was a promotional video on Nepali culture and tradition that brought this couple here. After they watched the video of typical wedding ceremony by chance, they felt mesmerized. The video was recorded by a Chinese citizen named Taylor Man, who frequently visits Nepal. One of his friends had promoted the video in China. After watching the video, the couple could not resist visiting Nepal and getting married here for the second time.

"Although we have already been married, we could not resist our urge to get married as per Nepalese tradition. We really liked the way things were done," said Jojo. "We throw party at hotel and receive gifts from friends and relatives even in China," he said, "But we were attracted by the uniqueness and beauty of the Nepalese tradition. For instance, we found the music and dancing in procession quite thrilling."

His wife, Maybo, is no less happy. "I got completely new feelings as I wore Nepali attire, garlands and performed wedding ceremony in temple amidst traditional instruments and dances," she said. "The experience is so different. It surely will be memorable," she added.

According to her, the Nepalese tradition marriage is unlike anything she has known. "These types of traditions and cultures should be preserved and promoted. I will recommend my unmarried friends back in China to get married in Nepal," said Maybo.

The couple reached Pokhara on Wednesday evening and stayed in Khukuri Hotel of Lakeside. They moved to Fishtail Lodge after their marriage to celebrate their honeymoon. The couple said they will be staying in Fishtail Lodge for three days and participate in recreational activities, such as paragliding and boating.

"The couple came to Pokhara after watching the video. It is possible more Chinese also may visit Nepal for marriage," said Taylor Man. "Pokhara can attract more Chinese youths by promoting itself as a marriage spot."

Jojo and Maybo's marriage was arranged by Beautiful Pokhara Adventure. According to BB Nepali, who runs the company, the couple had chosen the package costing Rs 140,000. "Their package included honeymoon celebration in Pokhara and paragliding to Kathmandu," he added.

According to tourism entrepreneurs in Pokhara, a large number of Chinese tourists are visiting Pokhara these days. Tourists like to take photos wearing Nepalese attire with beautiful mountains in the background.

"We are hopeful that Chinese tourists will take Pokhara as their marriage destination. The place carries a huge potential," said Som Thapa, chairman of Pokhara Tourism Board. "This will do more to promote Pokhara among Chinese tourists," he added.

"Pokhara is already famous among Chinese tourists for paragliding. Now it'll also be known as marriage destination," said Thapa.
