KATHMANDU, Sept 19: President of the main opposition party Nepali Congress Sher Bahadur Deuba has accused the government of running anti-constitutional activities. 

Addressing conclusion of the budget session of the House of the Representatives on Thursday, President Deuba came down heavily against the government. He claimed that it has been interfering judiciary ignoring the principle of separation of powers. 

He further blamed the government of misusing the parliament and controlling the independent commissions including the National Human Rights Commission. 

“Instead of devolving powers to the three-tiers of government as a basic spirit of federalism, the government, however, is making its utmost efforts to centralize the power in federal level,” said Deuba adding, “Nepali Congress will strongly protest against all wrongdoings of the government which go against the norms and values of the statute and federalism.”

Deuba also accused the government of muzzling the press, politicizing the state-owned media, and attacking the freedom of expression. 

The former prime minister also said that the government is failing to implement the constitution even after one and a half years of the election. “The government has totally failed to make it acceptable to the people from all walks of life,” argued Deuba.

The leader of the main opposition party also strongly opposed the government’s attempts to bring laws related to security by breaching the constitution and ignoring the opposition.

He claimed that the government has been found indulged into a number of mega scams including wide-body purchase, 33 kg gold smuggling, and Lalita Niwas.  “Our party is ready to support the government to launch an investigation against these scams so that guilties will be punished," Deuba said.

While mentioning the recent attack on the NC cadres in Banke, Deuba said that the government has failed to maintain law and order in the country. Deuba blamed the government for not taking action against those involved in incidences of violence against women. 

He also drew the attention of the government on the price hike, rise in tax affecting the entrepreneurs and growing frustration among the people in the recent days. He further urged the government to improve its performance by addressing the public concerns.
