KATHMANDU, Aug 8: Prime Minister Madhav Kumar Nepal held discussion with senior party leaders of UCPN (Maoist) on ending obstruction of the parliament at his private residence in Koteshwar Saturday morning. [break]
Unified Communist Party of Nepal (Maoist) Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal, senior vice-chair Mohan Baidya and vice-chair Naayan Kaji Shrestha participated in the meeting. The meeting took place before Dahal was set to leave for London on Saturday.
The discussion centered on ending the Maoists´ obstruction of the Legislature-Parliament and addressing the issue of civilian supremacy raised by the party, Shrestha told myrepublica.com.
Shrestha said the Maoists reminded the prime minister to take the issue of army chief for discussion in the parliament. "However, the prime minister suggested dealing with the issue by some other means," said the Maoist leader. "We did not agree but the PM was firm on his stance."
The two sides agreed to hold the talks again.
Maoists began their indefinite obstruction of proceedings of Legislature-Parliament on Friday alleging that the government failed to ensure ´civilian supremacy´ as committed in the four-point agreement reached with the Maoist last month.
The Maoists have warned of obstructing House business until the ´unconstitutional´ move of President Dr Ram Baran Yadav to reinstate army Chief Rookmangud Katawal (dismissed by te Maoist-led government) is made a subject of discussion in the parliament.
PM suggested bringing impeachment* motion
Meanwhile, speaking to mediapersons at the Tribhuwan International Airport, Maoist Chairman Dahal said the prime minister suggested the Maoists to table impeachment motion against the president as alternative means to resolve the deadlock over the president´s move. "But we said if he helped in impeaching the president, we will certainly do so."
