March 21 is observed as World Poetry Day since 1999 under the initiative of the United Nations Educational Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO).
During the programme, around 30 poets including former Chancellor of the Academy Bairagi Kaila, poets Dinesh Adhikari, Sulochana Manandhar, Umesh Rai 'Akinchan', Karnad Maharshi, Gayatri Bista, Gita Tripathi, Dhirendra Premarshi, Naranath Luitel, Pramod Pradhan, Pralhad Pokhrel, Bam Bahadur Thapa 'Jitali', Manju Kanchuli, Shyam Rimal, Radheshyam Lekali, Sangit Shrota, and others recited their poems.
