Japan group builds 50 schools in 13 districts

KATHMANDU, Nov 1: Minister for Education Madhav Poudel on Friday said that a gap of learning between the students from the privileged and poor communities has become a huge challenge to be addressed by the government.



Speaking at a function organized to celebrate the contribution of the Asia Friendship Network (AFN), which helped build 50 community schools in 13 districts of Nepal, Minister Poudel said that the Ministry of Education is working to end the disparity in the education system.[break]



He also praised AFN´s work and said the government of Nepal is ready to co-operate with NGOs that help enhance the quality of education in remote areas.



AFN-Nepal Chairperson Hira Man Lama expressed his determination to continue working for the betterment of the education sector in Nepal. He added that the organization is completing construction of 17 more community schools shortly. Likewise, construction of 13 new school buildings are in the pipeline.



"Apart from infrastructural development, we are also looking forward to supporting community schools with academic materials in future," Lama added. Minister Poudel had also felicitated 15 Japanese for their voluntary service in Nepal´s education sector.
