SC order to rein in epidemic

KATHMANDU, Aug 3: The Supreme Court on Monday ordered the government to immediately take measures to save the lives of people hit by cholera and diarrhea in Jajarkot, Rukum, Rolpa, Dailekh and Salyan districts.



A single bench of Justice Rajendra Prasad Koirala passed the order in response to a public interest litigation filed by advocate Kaml Neol.



The court also ordered the government to effectively mobilize human resource and supply medicines in the affected areas in order to contain the spread of the epidemic that has already claimed over 200 people.



Meanwhile, one more person died of diarrhea in Rukum, taking the toll to 47. Similarly, three more died of diarrhea in Dailekh, taking the toll to 15.
