Speaking at the event, Sharma said the government and brick entrepreneurs had been in mutual conflict for 18 years. “Now the problem has been resolved and both the parties should work together to lift the industry into a better height,” Sharma added.

Emphasizing on the role of brick industries in revenue collection, Sharma said the government will help brick entrepreneurs make their business more lucrative. According to Sharma, 500 brick entrepreneurs registered in VAT contribute around two billion rupees to the country´s annual revenue.

Meanwhile, Sharma also urged brick entrepreneurs to run their business only after registering themselves in VAT. According to him, a certain discount on tax will be provided to those registered in VAT. Sharma said those entrepreneurs found running their business without registering themselves in VAT after October 18 would be punished.

Sharma also urged the entrepreneurs not to transact on credit. “By transacting in credit, they are compelled to pay tax. Credit transaction might put entrepreneurs in problem,” said Sharma.

Bishwo Ram Kawa, the first vice-president of Bhaktapur Brick Entrepreneurs´ Association, urged the government to list brick as a primary need of people. “Bricks are used from a hut to a palace. It is like a basic need of people,” Kawa said at the event. Similarly, Nepal Brick Entrepreneurs´ Association President Mahendra Bahadur Chitrakar appreciated the decision of MoF and IRD to offer certain discounts to those registered in VAT. “The industry still has a bundle of problems. We expect government help us to solve them,” Chitrakar said.
