KATHMANDU, Oct 1: The Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal (CAAN) has issued a flight schedule allowing various domestic airlines to conduct 71 domestic flights a day in the month of October.

The civil aviation regulatory body decided to increase the number of flights that can be conducted a day in the month of October in view of the increased flow of passengers.

According to CAAN, Buddha Air will operate the highest number of flights with 25 flights a day followed by Yeti Airlines with 18 flights. Similarly, Shree Airlines will operate 12 flights a day between October 1 and October 31. Simrik Air and Saurya Airlines will likewise conduct two flights each a day. Similarly, Tara Air, Summit Air and Sita Air will each fly four flights a day to different domestic destinations during the period.

The authority has asked listed domestic airlines to submit their schedules as per the allocation of flight numbers for October. The airlines are also required to submit the details including the number of flights, sector and passengers to CAAN.

The government has said that it will allow only one fourth flights as compared to the number of flights carried out last year to minimize the risk of COVID-19 in Nepal.

Domestic flights officially resumed their operation from September 21 amid complaints from airline operators that they were already on the verge of collapse due to prolonged ban enforced by the government to operate flights. The airline companies have been receiving bookings targeted to the two biggest festivals-- Dashain and Tihar -- celebrated widely in the country.

Huge number of people travel within the country during Dashain and Tihar festivals. In recent years, the trend of people using air service as a mode of transportation has significantly increased over the years.
