MoFA Spokesperson Arjun Bahadur Thapa said seven persons of a group comprising 14 pilgrims are reported to have gone missing in Kedarnath. “While seven person of the same group are already on their way back home, seven others are said to have gone out of contact following landslides and flood triggered by incessant rainfall,” Thapa told Republica. Thapa said local authorities rescued around 70 Nepali pilgrims and ferried them safely to Deharadun. Likewise, two other groups comprising 32 and nine pilgrims are currently on their way to Haridwar, India. The holy Kedarnath lies some 300 kilometers from Haridwar.
MoFA on Thursday wrote to the Indian government, requesting for necessary help to rescue the stranded Nepali pilgrims. “The Indian side has assured that they would rescue all the stranded pilgrims irrespective of their nationality,” he said. “We have mobilized our embassy in New Delhi for necessary support to the stranded pilgrims.”
