Brijit´s wife Jhankri, three sons -- Rajendra, 8, Karan, 5, and Keshav, 4 -- and daughter Laxmi, two, and Gagan´s son Pawan, 6, and a daughter Pabitra,4, were killed in the brawl. Police held Gagan and Brijit, who were trying to flee after the murder, from near the village. Gharti said the duo has owned up the killings.

"Preliminary investigations show that the murders resulted following a dispute over property inheritance," said Assistant Chief District Officer of Bajhang Mahendra Jung Shah.
