The 23-year-old forward from Nepalgunj in Banke not only scored eight goals during the national tournament but also played crucial role in helping her team win the title. In the final match, Thapa dribbled the ball to the box from the left flank and it was her cross that Tribhuvan Army Club’s Ishwari Chuni Magar headed into her own post to gift victory to her departmental rivals.[break]
Earlier in the tournament, Thapa had scored a double hat-trick against the Central Region to lead her team to the semifinals.
She then scored two goals against the title favorite Armed Police Force (APF) Club as NPC came from a goal down to win the semifinal 3-1. Thapa’s second goal was quite memorable as she scored in the dying minutes of the match to strike the killer blow to APF.
Thapa was adjudged the best player of the tournament and was awarded a Yamaha scooter. The standout striker attributes her success to her hard work.“We have to undergo regular training at our club and my hard work paid off,” said Thapa when asked about the reason behind her success.
Thapa has been playing football for the last 10 years since her schooldays and she joined NPC about four years ago.
She says she was keenly interested in playing football since her childhood and that is the reason she chose the game as her career.
