Superintendent of Police Ramesh Kharel, chief of Siraha District Police Office, said police opened fire as Yadav, who was being brought to Siraha after his arrest in Kathmandu, tried to flee on the pretext of going to the toilet. He succumbed to bullet injuries to various parts of the body including stomach and chest.
A permanent resident of Lalpur VDC in Siraha, Yadav had gone underground after joining the little known armed group MMT some two years ago.
SP Kharel said Yadav was on the ´most wanted´ list of the police after he fled from Siraha prison last year. Yadav was one of 54 inmates fleeing from Siraha prison. He had briefly joined the Jai Krishna Goit-led Akhil Tarai Mukti Morcha (ATMM) after the jail-break.
On Saturday, Ram Narayan Mahato a.k.a. Sandesh, Central President of the Madhes Rastra Janatantrik Party, was also killed in police action in Siraha district.
