Adhikari was defeated 10-7 by a South Korean player in the final, said the NSC statement, quoting Ram Kumar Karki, the general secretary of National Taekwondo Union. Nepal also won a bronze medal in women´s 46 kg at the championship. Tara Parajuli defeated Malaysian and US players before losing to a South Korean player 7-5 in the semifinal. Among the three players representing Nepal in the championship, only Krishna Shrestha failed to win any medal as lost to a Korean player in the men´s 60 kg quarterfinal bout.
KATHMANDU: Top-seeded players registered wins in the Second Nationwide Chess Tournament that kicked off on Monday. Three-time national champion and top seed Badrilal Nepali and FIDE Master Bilamlal Shrestha emerged victorious in the first round of the event. Nepali defeated Prashant Thapa while Bilamlal edged past Govinda Shrestha.
Similarly, Surbir Lama, Janardan Shrestha, Krishna Thapa, Ganesh Man Duwal, Herakaji Maharjan and Rijendra Rajbhandari all earned one point each on the first day. CM Rupesh Jaiswal, Punyaman Karmacharya, Bivek Thing, Prem Krishna Maharjan, Nabin Tandukar, Rajendra Prasad Shrestha, FM Sujendra Prasad Shrestha, Nabin Jaiswal, Chudamani Bhattarai and Prakash Nepal also recorded victories. A total of 112 players will play 10 rounds in Swiss League format during the tournament. The tournament carries a total cash prize of Rs 250,000 -- the highest in Nepali chess -- and the winner will get Rs 50,000.
