KATHMANDU, Sept 23: Local Body Restructuring Commission on Friday stated that it will not halt works during the Bada Dashain holidays and submit the report before mid October to the government.

At an interaction organized by Reporters' Club Nepal here today, Commission Chairman Balananda Poudel said works at many districts were nearing final stages of completion and that plans were afoot to complete the remaining works by mid October and prepare the report.

"The Commission has received reports from 48 districts, while the reports of 40 other districts are nearing completion while reports of eight districts have been resent to the District Technical Committee due to some flaws in the report and need for corrections, and we are waiting for reports from 27 districts," he said.

Poudel said if reports from the remaining 27 districts do not arrive on time, the Commission itself will start restructuring of local level in those districts.

Chair further Poudel informed that as per the constitution, the local bodies in future will function as the legislature, executive and judicial as they were only recommending for the same in the past.

He added that the new local units should not be judged in comparison to the current municipalities and VDCs.

Poudel stated that the commission tentatively has prepared the base for developing 565 local units. The tenure of the commission will end in February 2017. He further informed that the commission will submit its report by Mid October. RSS
