KATHMANDU, July 2: Nepal Law Commission (NLC) has made 98 laws available online from Thursday in a bid to improve people´s access to the country´s commandments.

The laws are available at www.lawcommission.gov.np, in Nepali and English languages, said Mohan Banjade, secretary at the NLC.

NLC is an independent statutory body responsible for reviewing and recommending reforms of laws where it is needed.

“Currently only 33 laws, mostly related to financial sector and investment, have been made available in English, targeting foreign investors. Other laws will also be made available in English gradually,” Banjade told myrepublica.com.

This is the first official initiative so far taken to make all Nepali laws available at one government website.

There are over 300 laws on the books in Nepal. And, NLC has planned to make all of them available on the website gradually. There is plan also to make all the old laws since 1951 -- which are not effective now -- available on the website.

Banjade said that NLC will not levy any charge for downloading the laws from the websites.
