Mustang District Police Office vandalized over murder

BAGLUNG, March 18: Locals in Mustang on Monday vandalized the District Police Office (DPO) protesting police inability to find out the murderers a local elderly.



The locals demonstrated in front of the DPO demanding that the police arrest and make public those involved in the murder of one Pemba Bista, 68 of Kagbeni-6. Relatives of the slain elderly alleged that police are not acting to resolve the mystery surrounding the murder. [break]



According to police, Bista was abducted and killed by an unidentified group on March 2. Bista´s body was found disfigured beyond recognition on the bank of the Kaligandaki River in Jomsom-5. Bista was grabbed from his home by two unidentified persons.



According to Deputy Superintendent of Police, Basanta Ranjit, the irate locals vandalized the police office even when the investigation into the case is under way. “We have delved deep into the incident,” said Ranjit “Locals have been demanding that the culprits should not be spared,” he added.



Police informed that they have detained four suspects and investigation is under way. According to investigation officer at the DPO, Rajendra Pokhrel, initial investigation has shown that six people were involved in Bista´s murder. “We have already nabbed four of the six suspects and started search for the remaining two on the basis of the statement of those detained,” Pokhrel Said.



The locals have also submitted a memorandum to the chief district officer demanding that the truth behind be exposed.
