6.25 billion distributed to conflict survivors in a year

KATHMANDU, July 16: The Ministry of Peace and Reconstruction has said it distributed Rs 6.25 billion as relief and monetary assistance to the people and families who suffered during the armed conflict in the country in the Fiscal Year 2014/015.

The Ministry while sharing the information about its activities in the last year, shared that the money was provided to the families of those killed in the armed conflict, the injured and displaced ones and those losing properties.Similarly, Rs 23.54 billion was spent for the management of the cantonments of former Maoist fighter, transitional justices, election of the Constituent Assembly, peace building initiatives in the local and national level and other technical assistance.

According to the Ministry, it faced problems to ascertain the record of loss/damages to the conflict survivors. There was no uniformity in providing scholarship to the victims' children, no reassessment of the injured ones. The government failed to provide the relief money in lump sum.

Secretary at the Ministry, Khumraj Punjali, however said the formation of the commissions on enforced disappearance and on truth and reconciliation was laudable achievements. RSS
