At the program, participants also discussed the requirements for private sector development and inclusive growth in Nepal. They identified the current poor law and order situation and weak infrastructural development including power failure as main concerns, says a press release issued here on Wednesday. During the interaction, they also agreed on the need to support the government´s effort to create a more conducive business environment in order to create employment, increase state revenues and contribute to peace and stability.
Strikes hit food supply: WFP
KATHMANDU, June 17: The World Food Program (WFP) has said that ongoing strikes called by several groups in the Tarai have caused problems in delivery of food meant for Koshi flood victims.
Issuing a press statement on Wednesday, the UN food agency said it has been unable to transport more than 400 tons of food assistance to thousands of affected families. The statement said the WFP will be organizing convoys of humanitarian food assistance from Thursday. These trucks will be moving along multiple sections of the East-West Highway, including the Jankapur-Dhalkebar section that has been most affected by the transportation strike.
“In observation of basic international humanitarian principles, I urge all protesting groups to allow safe and unhindered passage of WFP humanitarian relief convoys so that vital food assistance can reach Koshi flood victims in a timely manner,” Richard Ragan, WFP-Nepal´s country representative, said in the statement.
