KATHMANDU, Sept 11: Minister for Foreign Affairs Prakash Sharan Mahat has left for India on a three-day visit on the invitation of his Indian counterpart Sushma Swaraj.
The minister visited the southern neighbor for laying ground for the visit of Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal, who is scheduled to embark on India visit starting September 15.
“He is scheduled to hold meeting with Indian Minister for External Affairs Sushma Swaraj at 12:30 pm tomorrow [Monday]. He will also meet various other Indian ministers later in the day,” the minister's press coordinator Yekraj Pathak told Republica.
According to him, he is also likely to meet Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi but the meeting has yet to be scheduled.
This is the second ministerial-level visit from Nepal to India after the formation of the Dahal-headed government. Earlier, Deputy Prime Minister and Home Minister Bimalendra Nidhi was sent to India as the government's special envoy last month. He met with India's President Pranab Mukherjee, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Minister for External Affairs Swaraj and other top officials.
