Civil society vows to launch movement

KATHMANDU, Nov 3: A gathering of civil society representatives on Saturday decided to launch a movement to safeguard democracy and national sovereignty saying that the country was heading toward a totalitarian system.



"Over 100 civil society members from various sectors gathered here in Kathmandu have decided to launch a civil society movement," said a statement issued after the gathering. [break]



Chairman of Nepal Bar Association (NBA) Prem Bahadur Khadka, Chairman of Federation of Nepali Journalists Shiva Gaunle and former Chairman of Doctors´ Association of Nepal Dr Kedar Narasingh KC, among others, attended the gathering.



"The gathering vowed to hold a massive civil society gathering on November 22 in Kathmandu," said the statement signed by former NBA Chairman Shambhu Thapa, KC and Mumaram Khanal on behalf of the gathering.
