KATHMANDU, June 17: A total of 53 local governments have failed to announce their financial plans for FY 2024/25 as the current fiscal year is about to end.
The Intergovernmental Fiscal Management Act of 2017 mandates that sub-national governments, including local levels, submit their annual budgets by June end. However, 7.04 percent out of 753 local governments have not completed their tasks, breaching the government law, according to the records maintained by the Ministry of Federal Affairs and General Administration.

Most of the local bodies from Madhesh Province are in the list of not abiding with the existing laws. Out of the 136 local governments, 24 have not endorsed their financial plans for the current fiscal year.
