KATHMANDU, Oct 17: More than 2.1 million people have left the Kathmandu Valley for various destinations for celebrating the Dashan festival.
The Metropolitan Traffic Police Division stated that 2.2 million people left Kathmandu via the land route alone within a period of four days till Tuesday.
Senior Superintendent of Police at the Division, Basanta Panta, said that although the passengers traveling to faraway destinations have left, those from the districts around Kathmandu Valley such as Sindhupalchok, Kavre, Nuwakot, Dhading, among others, would be leaving the Valley on Wednesday and Thursday also before the Bijaya Dashami day which falls on Friday. Bijaya Dashami is the last day of the 10-day Bada Dashain festival.
SSP Panta estimates that some 2.4 million people would have exited Kathmandu during Dashain.
The movement of people and traffic on the roads has reduced in Kathmandu with 2.2 million people leaving the Valley. RSS
