SARLAHI, Sept 29: The torrid experience for 15-year-old Anita Majhi (Musahar) of Sarlahi Bhaktipur-7, who was rescued from human traffickers, is not over even after returning home.

Although Anita was saved from being sold into a hellish life in Indian brothels, her life back home has not been easy as she is eight months pregnant and still unmarried. [break]

Anita was left in the lurch after Kari Majhi, her boyfriend, rejected her claim that the child in her belly was his.

According to Anita, she was already one month pregnant when she was taken to India by the traffickers seven months ago. She said the pregnancy was the result of physical contact with Kari, who she claimed was in love with her.

Anita´s parents, who had come to the police office at Bhaktipur to collect their daughter after she was rescued and brought back from India, accused her of being of loose moral character, among other things. However, she rejected their accusation outright.

“I was already with child for one month before I was taken to India,” she said forcefully.

Kari, the boyfriend, admitted that they were in love and he was going to marry her. However, he flatly denied having any physical contact with her.

Anita for her part also said she had informed Kari about her pregnancy earlier and the two were planning to run way to Panjab, India and marry and settle there. But according to her, Kari could not take her to Punjab as his uncle and brother were accompanying him to India to look for work.

Anita was shocked after her lover rejected her. According to police Sub-inspector (SI) Khemraj Sunuwar, the police have entrusted the case to the community itself for resolution. But as the two sides could not come to any agreement, Anita was handed over to her parents.

According to Dinesh Regmi of Child Protection Organization, which helped bring the trafficked girls back to Nepal, if society cannot solve the problem, Anita will be rehabilitated through a legal process.
