According to data obtained by Republica from DoI, 16 deportees were Pakistani nationals while 13 were Bangladeshis.[break]
“Most of the Pakistani nationals, who were refugees, were deported for overstaying while many of the Bangladeshi nationals were found in possession of fake passports," said Khagendra Prasad Bhatta, section officer at DoI.
Last year, the government officials had deported 78 foreigners from 22 countries and a majority were Pakistani and Bangladeshi nationals.
According to Ganesh Adhikari, another official at DoI, the immigration office deported one national each from Nigeria, Belgium, the Netherlands, Poland, Russia, Burma, Austria, Japan, Afghanistan and Sri Lanka, three from Iran and five from Somalia.
Among the deported foreigners, five have been barred from entering Nepal for the next 10 years while six will not be permitted to visit Nepal for five years.
Similarly, 30 of the expelled foreign nationals have been barred from visiting Nepal for two years. The remaining will not be allowed to enter Nepal for a year.
As per the existing law, any foreigner found smuggling drugs or possessing fake passports should be deported back to his/her nation and will be barred from visiting Nepal for 10 years and five years respectively.
